Tomar Thomas: The Extrovert, Go-Getter, & Queen
We sat down with Tomar Thomas to get an insider’s glimpse of who she really is, the things that make her happiest, and the best advice she’s ever received and wants to pass on. We hope you enjoy!
Question: In your own words, who is Tomar Thomas?
Answer: I am a proud black woman with Jamaican ancestry. My Jamaican culture has played an integral part of not only my upbringing but also my current lifestyle. My life is dynamic with a heavy background in sports, two bachelor degrees (one BS in Health and a BS in Nursing), and now a social media and nursing career. I have had my fair share of failures and I did not always feel the most confident, but my goal is to share my experiences on my platforms and inspire others to be confident in all that they do, wear, and experience!
Question: How are you defining happiness these days and what makes you most happy?
Answer: I am a huge extrovert and always feel so energized after being with the people that mean the most to me! Right now, I am currently finding so much happiness being around family and exploring where we come from. A lot of my family lives in Jamaica and other parts of the US, and I am still on a high from visiting Jamaica in March.
Question: What are you most excited about with life right now?
Answer: Right now, I am excited to just live! This is the first time in my life that I am not in school and I just feel free. I want to travel and explore and take advantage of that freedom as much as I can! I also feel inclined to cease every opportunity I can in this industry and really make a name for myself now that school doesn’t hold me back!
Question: Who is your hero today? If we asked 10-year old Tomar the same question, who would she say is her hero?
Answer: I’d be lying if I said I had just one hero. I have been blessed with some of the most caring, kind-hearted, and supportive individuals in my life. There have been multiple people at each stage of my life who have inspired me somehow; each in their own way!
I’d like to say that 10-year old Tomar would say that current-Tomar is her hero because she always knew I had a much bigger purpose and dreams to fulfill. I always knew from a young age that I wanted to pursue a career in Medicine. I have also always dreamed of modeling but being a content creator showcases so much more of who I am in such a genuine way.
Question: When was the last time you cried? And, why?
Answer: Two weeks ago after watching the show Undercover Boss!!! In the show, a person in an upper-management position goes undercover as an entry-level employee to discover faults in the company (pulled straight from Wikipedia). I am such a sucker for people’s personal stories/struggles. I had never seen Undercover Boss and caught myself watching it with my boyfriend and his dad! I was in full tears by the end!
Question: Who would play you in a movie based on your life?
Answer: It would only be right if our queen Rhianna played me in a movie! She’s a multi-fascinated individual like myself, a fashion icon, and she encompasses all the Caribbean flavor!
Question: Have you ever dined-and-dashed or been caught stealing?
Answer: As a child, I was terrified of getting in trouble! In 3rd grade, my teacher used to keep the foam animal stickers under her desk and I stole a few on multiple occasions before she made it back to the room after lunch. At the end of the school year I returned them all because I felt so guilty (LOL!). So to make a long story short, no!
Question: What’s the best advice you’ve ever received that you want to pass on to everybody reading this?
Answer: Take more risks!! Believe me I am such a people pleaser! I grew up as the first child so I felt as though my role was to do everything by the book to be an example for my brothers. The older I get the more I feel drawn to go against social norms and just do things that make me feel fulfilled.
