Jules Jacobson: Photo Presets

Written by: Jules Jacobson

One of the number one questions I get is, “HOW DO YOU EDIT YOUR PHOTOS?” Prior to this I haven’t shared my secrets but I am here to give you my editing tips as an easy preset! Every edit is simple, not overdone and that “barely edited” feel we all want and love. I never over edit my photos and I always look for the best lighting BEFORE I take pictures. These edits will enhance your photos and give them an updated, ~cool~ vibe (we love that!). These presets are an easy download with instructions and your presets are ready to go (in the free Lightroom app!).

Overviews

MOODY: We all love a good moody vibe. The perfect go-to preset that softens harsh light but brings out just the right amount of contrast & grain.

NATURAL: The perfect preset for your FLASH PHOTOS! I use this one on my indoor photos mostly to make my coloring more consistent. Dimmed lights but perfect skin tones!

GLOWING: That glowing skin & perfect light we are all looking for with ever picture. Warm, dimmed coloring so the real focus is you and that glowing skin!

FILM: Film photos are IN but do we all want to pay for a film camera? No thanks! A bit grainy and that beloved vintage feel!

Download Instructions

First things first, you must have the mobile Lightroom app (it’s free)! That will be the first step to being able to download the presets. Once you have that downloaded it should pop up during the process of adding these presets into your Lightroom app.

Once you have the free mobile Lightroom app downloaded, you need to download the zip file above. Assuming you have already downloaded the folder from your phone, an icon should pop up as to where you want to save the folder. Click “Files.” If you do not have the files app, you will need to downloaded that as well. This is an app that usually comes with the iPhone but an easy download if you deleted it or don’t have it!

Once the folder is in your files app, you should be able to click on it and open each individual preset. For example, if the first one you click on is “Moody,” you will open that preset, then click the bottom left corner of the screen to open the preset in a new app. From there you should click the Lightroom app! You may have to scroll over a bit to find it. If you can’t find it, try deleting the app and then re-downloading it so it’s fresh. Once you click on the Lightroom app, a little box will appear and that is where you click “Launch Lightroom Now.” This should import the preset into Lightroom and you should immediately see one of my imported photos.

Instructions for Saving Presets

Now to save the preset! Click on the photo, then click the top right corner (a circle with the 3 holes). Next click “Create Preset.” All you need to do from here is label the preset “Moody” or whatever you want to call it! If you want to group them together you can create a group name to bunch them together. Now when you add any new photos of your own into Lightroom, you can click the “Presets” button at the bottom and all of the presets you saved should be there to click on and add to your own photos with just one click and no editing needed on your part!

This process will need to be done with each individual preset. Once you get the hang of it it should not take longer than 5 minutes! If you need any help, please don’t hesitate to email hello@togeth3r.com! The below video is a step-by-step walk-through to download the presets!
