See how we give a damn and are conscientious about the brands we partner with here at Togeth3r? It’s very demure, very mindful. Unless you’ve been lost in your own world, you’ve likely come across the “very demure, very mindful” trend coined by TikToker Jools Lebron. While the video is meant to satirize workplace beauty etiquette, the term has taken off in popularity. And if we’re being honest, it’s not hard to see why.

Don’t get us wrong—we’re all about being loud, proud, and owning who you are. But 2024 has undoubtedly been the year of the “soft life,”’ and after brat summer, we’re in favor of embracing the new season in a cutesy, reserved, and modest way. Heading to a pumpkin patch without your phone to take in nature? Very mindful. Rocking a simple winged eyeliner at work? Very demure. Letting other people’s opinions get to you? So not demure or mindful.

In essence, this trend is all about quietly living your best life without letting outside uncontrollable factors and other people get to you; it’s about minding your own business and staying grounded and centered regardless of what’s going on around you. To help you have a very demure and mindful fall, we’ve rounded up the five wellness habits that’ll help you achieve just that. Keep scrolling to learn more.

1. Do daily mindfulness practices

The term “mindfulness” refers to focusing your awareness to whatever is going on in the present moment, and observing your thoughts and feelings without judgment. Being mindful can not only reduce stress and anxiety, but also improve brain function and help with pain management. However, this isn’t something that happens overnight. Rather, it comes from learning how to stay present with the help of daily mindfulness practices.

Deep breathing and meditation are two of the most beneficial mindfulness practices. Beginners will likely find it easier to start with deep breathing before moving on to meditation, but there’s tons of resources available to help you get started. Palouse mindfulness is a great option, and YouTube and apps like Calm, Headspace, and Open have tons of tutorials and guided practices for this.

2. Set intentions for the season

It’s no secret that setting goals is crucial for success, so this season, set some intentions for yourself. These intentions can be anything you want, so think about what you’d like to accomplish. Maybe you want to make an active effort to mingle more, improve your performance at work, or check off all your fall activities on your to-do list. Whatever the case may be, getting intentional will give you goals to work toward and help you be more mindful overall.

Once you’ve determined what your intentions are, be sure to write them down somewhere (like a trusted journal) so you can come back to and reflect on them regularly, like after completing some deep breathing or meditation.

3. Cut back on screen time

It’s all too easy to fall into the doomscrolling trap. Technology is everywhere, after all, and our smartphones are practically our lifelines—they’re the primary way we communicate with our friends, family, and even colleagues. But spending hours on your phone and social media can seriously impede your well-being. This is why consciously making an effort to cut back on screen time is an absolute must.

To do this, set boundaries with technology. This might mean not answering emails after-hours, using social media intentionally and for a set amount of time, refraining from checking your phone around others, reading a physical book during lunch, and so forth. Limiting screen time will make it easier to disconnect and turn your mind off. And this in turn will make it easier to be more mindful and demure.

4. Move your body

The temptation to hit the snooze button when the cold weather hits is very, very real, but staying active is non-negotiable, even in the cold weather. The good news is that this movement can be anything you want, from a morning yoga session to nighttime Pilates, cardio, weight lifting, and anything in between. No matter what you choose to do, moving your body regularly will help you feel better and function better so you can stay grounded and centered.

5. Get out in nature

The temperature change from summer to fall can be jarring, especially when you live in a cooler climate or somewhere that experiences all four seasons. While a cooler forecast can make you want to bundle up and stay indoors, it’s still important to get out in nature as much as possible. Getting outdoors can help you sleep better, boost immune function and mental well-being, and provide mental restoration—all of which is very cutesy, very demure.

Thankfully, there’s no shortage of outdoor activities to do during the fall. Whether you visit a pumpkin patch, go apple picking, visit a farmer’s market, winery, or take a hayride, getting out in nature this season will be so refreshing. Plus, you’ll also get to wear some adorable fall outfits, which definitely isn’t a bad thing.
